Although Ambush was budgeted as a B-picture being
produced by the first time producer Armand Deutsch and in
spite that Dore Schary (Louis B. Mayer's eventual
successor) wanted Taylor for the leading role in
"Battleground", Robert Taylor was eager to take the lead
in the film and finally he got it, not only because he
felt at home doing westerns, his favorite genre, but in
order also to help and support his friend Ardie Deutsch.
Thanks to Taylor's name, Ambush was moved up the ladder,
and became a relatively successful picture for the first
time producer who stayed
